12/19/12 Lot of stuff to update as I have been busy at Sawmills
NINE HOLES OPEN at Sawmills for play. Holes 1-7,17, and 18 can now be played. Some still need brush removal, so spend ten minutes of your round dragging brush away from the fairway.

NOTHING MUCH TO REPORT:.Other than belated thanks to all who helped with the 2012 Classic, nothing pressing newa. No aces, no top finishes, no new kids or weddings.
EXCEPT: On September 18 the Sawmills City Council approved funding and schedule for construction of an 18 hole disc golf course at Veterans Memorial Park. Final design is underway and construction is scheduled to start in November. The plan is to open in April, 2013.
One player dropped out, so Hickory Classic field is back to 90.
Great turnout of 32 players for last Wednesday Doubles session of 2012. Walt and Tommy took first and second for the season. T-pro and Brad took remains of Ace Pool in throw-off.

7/10/12 I'm back. As you know, June was a tough month for me, but it's time to get caught up.
2012 Hickory Classic, September 1 and 2 : Time to sign-up to play, volunteer, and sponsor a hole. Dan has a supply of printed copies of the forms which are available at the Classic Page. On-line sign-up will be available soon at PDGA.com. First planning meeting Wednesday, July 11, after dubs (around 8 PM) at Hickory Tavern in Viewmont.

5/22/12 NEW PIN PLACEMENT
Check out the newest par 4 at Hilton Park, hole 4, position C, to the left of the road past the B position. Like holes 11 and 13, there are two baskets giving the player a choice of par 3 or par 4 placements. Length is 439 feet. For the C only the paved road is OB. Out of bounds is unchanged for positions A and B. Thanks to Freddy, Frank, Richard V and Dan for the installation.

Walter and Tommy shot a nice 42 on the Classic 18 layout (par 54) on 5/9/12 with a steller19 on the back 9 deucing every hole except #19. Of course they just added to their already sizable series leads.
HILDEBRAN: Work day on Friday May 18 to level tee pads. Be there at 9:30 AM with gloves. Grand opening is on Saturday, May 26.
5/3/12 ACES! Both Brandon R and Tyler P hit aces last night in Wed dubs, and they were partners. On the par 56 Blue 18 layout they shot 15 down and would have had a 19 on the back nine if not for a bogey on hole 23, their last hole.
Tommy and Walt increase their leads, but now Richard V and T-Pro are 3rd and 4th, respectively.
Check out the new steel UFO logo water bottles available as payout/purchase items, along with a resupply of UFO window decals. Brandon is making some smaller size decals for those wishing to make a less splashy display.
5/2/12 Big ups to Walter M as he tied for 2nd in a field of 76 Advanced Players at the CAC
John M (T4), Casey R (T19) and Tommy B (29) cashed in Intermediate and Richard S got 3rd in Rec.
Good showing by a UFO work crew helping Henry and Jeffrey install nine sleeves at the new Hildebran Community Park. Grnad Opening is set for May 26. This will be a short nine hole course good for those with smaller arms and a chance for everybody to hone one's short game.

Good times at the Tavern last night. Here is some more info:
1. The following work projects were discussed and agreed to initiate:
a - Remove the fallen trees on Hole 7. Josh W took the lead on this.
b - Remove the brush in the ditch on hole 15
c - Install brick or stone drop zones on holes 2 and 3
d - Level and possibly redirect tee pad on hole 10
e - Build terraces around pin positions on Long 3 and 5 to address unfair roller and erosion issues. Jeremy W took the lead on this item.
If interested in leading a project contact Dan, Frank or Freddy.

2. Wednesday Dubs will start on April 4, the first week the park will be open until 8 PM. Same format, $5 random draw, plastic payout, top two points earners get HC entry.
3. New discs are in from both Innova and Discraft. I'll have first run Mambas at Sunday dubs on 3/11.
4. We agreed the club will look into sponsoring a hole for the 2012 Worlds. Post your suggestion for which Charlotte course/hole to request.
5. Sunday will alternate between dubs and tag singles, 18 holes, mixing up the layouts. Odd dates (i.e. March 11) are singles, even dates doubles. Singles will have two divisions enforced with bagger ridicule, if neccesary.
6. A calendar for the website was requested. I'll work on it.

Great end of the season for Wednesday Doubles last night.
Brad S and Frank finished one/two to earn paid spots into the Hickory Classic.
Glen won the throw-off for the Sport basket.
Richard V, Dan, and Nate L came in 1,2,3 for the CTP to distribute half the leftover Ace Pool. The other half will be prorated and pay down part of the entry fees for places 3 to 10.
Since March, 87 people played 620 rounds. The club raised over $1000 to go to payouts and costs of the Hickory Classic.
