Good job, team tee pad! Number 15.5 is poured and will be ready for play Wednesday. Thanks to Jeff B, Jeffrey C (Henry's Dad), Richards T, S and V, Glen, Nate L, Terry, and Dan. Look for a workday to pour #15 in about 2 weeks. Finally, thanks again to Ben Whitehead and the Coyote Kitchen for the donation that covers the cost of the materials.

Twenty-two players Wednesday. Brad  started the CTP contest for the Discatcher Sport. Freddy aced #5 for a nice payday.

On Tuesday, the Sawmills, NC town council approved the construction of an 18 hole disc golf course at Veterans Memorial Park. Look for the first 7 holes to open by July 1, 2011.

WORKDAY! Monday, April 25 (the day after Easter), President Glen is leading the paving crew as we will pour teepads on 15 and 15.5. Everyone who helps at least three hours gets an invite to Larry's wing party at Hooters.
Thanks to Richard T and Glen for securing a Mule to transport cement and water to the worksites.

Brad Smith is donating a basket to be given away at the end of the series. Dollar throw CTP each week to qualify for year end throw-off. More details to follow. Thanks Brad!

Thanks to the 48 club members who have paid their 2011 dues which comes with a bag tag. Forty-one players earned tags 1-41 on April 3rd in our biggest tag event yet. Congrats to Zach B for winning #1 in a play-off with Brian J. Also congrats to Andy P for his Ace to collect the pool. 

Congrats to Freddy for winning Grandmasters at the G-Town Throwdown II on 4/2.  More UFO'ers placed and I'll post more when results go up at PDGA.

2011 tags are in and the initial distribution will be a round of singles played in place of Sunday dubs on April 3 at 11:00. The combo including 2011 tags and 2011 club membership is only $20.

Big thanks to Team "Tee pad" for the work on 15.5: Andy D, Tyler, Richard S, Dr. Jeff, Adam, Doug, Nate L, and Dan. Also thanks to Matt for the mat. After a month of letting the fill dirt settle we can talk capping it (and 15) with cement.


2/22/11 Good workday today. Thanks to Tyler, Richard S, Andy D, and Dan. The crew reconfigured the fence around hole one to fit the new parking layout, made a path connecting the tees fo 15.5 and 18, and installed two of the planned four courses of stone to level the tee pad on 15.5.

The park re-opened Thursday with new pavement and improved parking lines. The new arrangement adds 4 spaces and reduces the chance of being blocked in on busy weekends.

Workdays are re-scheduled for Tue 2/22 and Wed 2/23 to work on the teepad for hole 15.5 and maybe some new pin positions.

Park is closed today and tomorrow for paving. if you want to play the course park in side streets across 6th Street, but not on 6th Street as you will be ticketed/towed.

ICE BOWL TOMORROW
Even if you have not registered, be at the park by 9:30 and you'll get in. Bring can goods for mulligans, and if you wish, something that goes well with chili.
Sunday dubs played a temp hole between holes 8 and 9 and general response was favorable but concerns arose about flow and risk of lost discs. Discussions continue as to location of 24th hole, input appreciated.

Sunday Doubles Schedule
To address several issues of excessively long rounds and fatigue, the players voted to adopt the following schedule:
Dates with even numbers will have 18 holes played
Dates with odd numbers will play all holes (currently 23)
Thus starting Jan 30 (even) 18 will be played. The next week 18 will be played Feb 6, then play 23 on Feb 13.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Lots of stuff since last update.
Hole 15 has been modified with pin placement down the hill to the right. Hole is now a 436 foot par 4.
Hole 15 X is open playing uphill to the old hole 15 placement. The hole is a par three at 206 feet, but plays like 250 due to the elevation change.

Congrats to the Appalachian State collegiate team for placing 7th out of 18 teams at the Southeast Collegiate Open. the winning team was defending champs Augusta State who beat Clemson by 8 strokes at the Flyboy Aviation course near Atlanta.

2010 FINAL FLING
Nate Lane announced that the end of year UFO club meeting will be on Dec 4, 2010 at Shawn O'Gara's house starting at 5 PM. Dinner will be provided.
Before the meeting there will be two rounds of disc golf at a temporary course in Conover. See details to the right.

Highland Hills in North Wilkesboro, NC is now open for play. Several club members played in the first ever round there yesterday and had a great time. Congrats to Lance and the WCDGC for bringing a fine, new course to the area. You owe it to yourself to play it and enjoy the waterfall hole!

It is USDGC week. If you have never made it down to Rock Hill, do it this year as there won't be another USDGC until 2012.

Registration is closed and the field of 90 is up one the PDGA registration page.
Online registration filled on Saturday night. Some tried to register after that and saw some spots were left. I'm told that was due to a refresh issue and some browsers load out of date pages to save time. If there are times in the future when you can't complete online registration, try hitting the refresh button.

Thanks to all who got in and those who tried. This is looking to be another great field of competitors. Lets just hope Earl stays away from our friends on the coast.

3. Only 26 spots left in Hickory Classic. Online registration ends Monday, 8/30.
4. Tonight and 9/1 are last rounds of Wednesday dubs.
5. Big shipment of Innova discs just arrived for club sales, including custom stamp with UFO wing.
6. Holes have been renumbered 1 to 22. No more decimal holes!

EVENTS

The club hosts two weekly events:

• Sunday Doubles 11 AM, random draw, captains's choice
• Wednesday Doubles at 5:30 PM , random draw, captain's choice, plastic payout, top two series point earners get entry paid into Hickory Classic 

There are three annual events:

• The Hickory Classic, a B tier PDGA sanctioned event held the Labor Day weekend (this year Sept 3 and 4, 2011)
• The Ice Bowl is held in Winter as a charity benefit.
• The One Disc Ace Race is a special event using a prototype disc on shortened holes.  The 2011 event is Aug 6th, 2011. Must register and pay by June 30.
